THE GOLD HEART PROGRAM The Gold Heart Campaign is Variety the Children's Charity's signature fundraising endeavor worldwide. The campaign was created in 1991 in Great Britain by Variety International Board Member, Marsha Rae Ratcliff, who thought to create gold pins in the shape of hearts to raise funds to assist children in need. Thanks to Variety's partnership with major motion picture studios, the program continues to be a huge success. In recent years, our partnership with Hollywood movie studios has included a pin based on a film or character and corresponding marketing materials, including point-of-purchase boxes, one-sheets, window clings, counter cards and on-screen trailers. This type of pin both helps promote the studios' films and increases Gold Heart sales tremendously. Now Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox have partnered with Variety the Children’s Charity to create a pin featuring fan favorites C-3PO and R2-D2 to raise funds for Variety programs that serve children who are disabled and disadvantaged. The collector’s item will be sold for $3.00 in more than 1,000 movie theatres and select retail outlets nationwide from November 2011 – April 2012. "The Force is with Children in Need" |
